Duties & Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include: • Maintaining, monitoring, and managing the SQL Server databases in all client environments • Troubleshooting performance and availability issues related to Windows Server, SQL Server, clustering, Always On, and SQL replication • Continuously monitor SQL Server databases, enhance database performance, and ensure that the databases are running at the optimum speed • Proactively and reactively resolve database performance and capacity issues, including managing indexes, SQL trace data, audits, and alerting • Manage SQL Server jobs and Windows scheduled tasks • Automate routine tasks, alert response using Powershell, SQL, .NET, or other tools • Analyze query execution plans and advise developers on best practices for database code • Collaberate with development, QA, and business teams, and at times, directly with customers • Research and develop new ways to improve existing functionality and increase uptime and performance • Manage data access and security of SQL Server databases and critical client data • Support team members for requests with Integration Services (SSIS) and other data import/export tools • Proactively analyze and bring forth ideas for continuous improvement • Assist other Technical Operations team members in maintaining application and website uptime, including managing Windows Server, IIS, SFTP server, etc. when needed • Provide 24/7 support for critical Production systems • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours • Collaberate with and manage third party vendors (hosting providers, cloud providers, etc.)  • Support and participate in the organization’ s Continual Improvement Program to conform to ISO 9001 requirements by complying with the Quality Policy and procedures and meeting QMS objectives • All employees have a professional duty to provide any information related to security issues, incidents or situations that present a potential security risk to the ISO Team, client Management or their Supervisor • Other tasks and projects as directed by supervisors

  Requirements, Education and Training • 5+ years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration on SQL Server 2008+ • 2+ years of experience managing Microsoft SQL Server 2012+ with extensive knowledge of new features beginning with 2012 • Bachelor’ s degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited university and/or equivalent work experience • Strong knowledge of SQL Server Fundamentals • Extensive knowledge of T-SQL; writing complex queries, stored procedures and functions • Knowledge of web development a plus (ASP.NET web forms, MVC, C# or VB.NET) • Thorough understanding of database modeling

Knowledge and Skills • Strong knowledge and experience in troubleshooting SQL availability, blocking and locking issues, index design, monitoring logs for critical events, SQL Profiler and SQL Trace, SQL backup and restore, SQL Agent • Solid knowledge and experience with database design, performance tuning, query optimization, indexes, data migration tools, data analysis, stored procedure programming, linked servers, SQL Server setup and installation • Working knowledge of Always On, Change Data Capture, SQL Replication, SQL Clustering, Active Directory management (users, groups, permission assignment), Powershell, Extended Events, Storage Area Networks (SANs) as relates to SQL Server, disaster recovery concepts (RPO, RTO), SQL Service Broker. Direct experience is a plus • Capability to lead projects, as well as be able to work in a team environment • Demonstrate personal initiative • Solid verbal and written communication skills • Strong organizational skills • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously • Solid analytical and problem solving ability • Desire to assume increasing levels of leadership responsibility
