The PACS Administrator’s role is to perform all related activities for supporting the Client's Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS). This includes preparing images for digital archiving and assuring the quality control of medical diagnostic images and files. The PACS Administrator is also responsible for configuring, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all PACS associated hardware and software, while ensuring its optimal performance.
A successful PACS Administrator must have the following attributes:

  • Establish the PACS compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Able to break down complex concepts for easy end-user comprehension
  • Document and Implement Training Modules – person to person, webinar and automated
  • A strong communicator at many levels in the business

  • Support of the following systems to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency
    • Sectra PACS and/or other related applications
  • Manage the distribution and storage of digital images from a variety of sources
  • Provide application-level PACS support, including image workflow, autorouting, and other activities
  • Integrate diagnostic images with Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and Radiological Information Systems (RIS)
  • Monitor PACS performance as it relates to overall network performance in order to minimize slowdowns and downtime
  • Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot PACS and associated devices and software
  • Day to day Administration of PACS
  • Routing of PACS Images
  • Ability to assist Radiologist with PACS Application level support
  • Ownership for creation and documentation of processes within assigned area
  • Identify any inefficiencies in end-to-end workflow from scheduling to billing
  • Interact with the following vendors, and additional vendors as they arise
    • PACS vendor
    • RIS Vendor
    • Mammography Reporting Systems Vendor
    • Other related 3rd party vendors for RIS and Billing
  • With respect to the above systems:
    • Resolve issues reported by users in a timely manner
    • Work with vendors to resolve issues, deliver upgrades and develop solutions
    • Train end users including Radiologists
    • Provide standardized training modules
  • Continued improvement of end user workflow – active participant in identifying inefficiencies and providing solutions
  • Effective and timely user acceptance testing, meets demanding implementation deadlines
  • Tangible increases in IS knowledge related to assigned systems
  • An effective end-user knowledge transfer process for assigned systems
  • High end-user customer satisfaction of assigned systems
Qualifications Required

  • At least five years career-track delivering high quality support services in a healthcare-oriented IS support environment, achieving high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and understanding of healthcare systems, related applications to current workflow
  • Working knowledge of DICOM
  • Working knowledge of DICOM routers
  • Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and understanding of the roles and workflows within a Imaging organization
  • Assist in the strategic planning of medical imaging initiatives, including new deployments, future needs and systems integration
  • Able to demonstrate the following
    • Effective communication skills - oral, written, and presentation
      • Able to interact effectively with physicians, clinical staff, management, and vendors

Highly Desired
Any of the following qualifications are considered highly desirable in a candidate for this position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Information Systems or imaging-related discipline
  • Demonstrable in-depth knowledge and understanding of (in order of importance):
    • Knowledge of Sectra PACS and other PACS systems
    • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
    • Working knowledge of HL7 interfaces
