Storage & Virtualization Analyst

 

The Storage and Virtualization Analyst is responsible for design, installation, configuration, administration  and maintenance of storage and virtualization systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure in a 24x7 enterprise environment.  Participate and lead in technical research, documentation for assigned project.  Analyze customer requirements to provide highly available, secure solutions to meet service level objectives.  Participate in on-call rotations and after-hours work as required by system implementations, outages or upgrades.

 

Responsibilities:

• Manage implementation projects involving existing and new technical solutions; responsibilities include planning, scheduling and coordinating the project

• Implement and participate in the design of systems and server infrastructure for new solutions following procedures listed in the Infrastructure Policies and Procedures manual as well as the Information Protection Policy manual

• Troubleshoot storage/virtualization hardware and software problems; coordinate resolution with internal technical resources and vendors

• Maintain documentation of server and storage equipment on an on-going basis; include documentation updates as an integral part of every project

• Maintain knowledge of current and developing technologies, recommend evaluation of technologies that would benefit the IT infrastructure

• Monitor and analyze the capacity and performance of systems and make recommendations for improvements as necessary

• Research and implement automated processes to improve operational efficiency

• Provide training on new deployments to other IT personnel; outline how each team will be affected related to on-going support of the system

• Coordinate vendor efforts in conjunction with project plans

• Perform other duties and projects as assigned

 

Requirements:

• Degree in Computer Sciences or other technical field with a minimum of five years in IT Systems Administration experience in an enterprise virtualized environment

• Non-degreed personnel must have a minimum of six years of IT Systems Administration experience in an enterprise virtualized environment

 

Preferred Skills:

• Bachelor’ s Degree in Computer Science or other technical field

• VMAX, Isilon, XtremIO, Brocade, SRM, vRealize, SDN, NSX, VMware View

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple projects and multiple tasks while meeting agreed upon objectives

• Good technical problem-solving skills

• Strong customer service skills; experience required

• Basic understanding of LAN protocols and technologies such as TCP/IP and Ethernet

• Basic understanding of data communication topologies, protocols, and equipment

• Working knowledge of LAN hardware, such as servers, and networking equipment

• Good working knowledge of networking software, such as Windows operating systems,  Unix, and Linux

• Understands how hardware and software fits into various LAN topologies

• Good working knowledge of directory technologies such as Microsoft Active Directory, and LDAP

• Strong working knowledge of storage technologies

• Strong working knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware ESXi
