Data Scientist

DESCRIPTION:
As a Data Scientist, you will lead the design of intelligent systems that will orchestrate our member experience and change the way that people use vehicles. This will be our clients' first data science hire. As such, you will have the opportunity to build their data science capability and products from the ground up.   You will both begin build out our intelligence layer and help lay a foundation by specifying what data to collect as our client grows. This is a great opportunity for someone who can bring both technical data science skills and entrepreneurial mindset to bear on our business.   
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the process of translating business objectives into defined problems that can be solved by applying data science 
Design algorithms to address current business challenges, including 
Anticipating and / or prompting customer flips  
Selecting which vehicle to assign to each customer flip 
Optimizing vehicle procurement in terms of models, features and mix 
Predicting demand and scheduling procurement and maintenance to meet availability 
goals 
Automating customer service interactions and augmenting human concierges 
Optimizing scheduling and routing across daily operations 
Work closely with our engineers to design, build and scale solutions.   You should have the chops to create prototypes and to take ownership of the “ science code” within the solution where appropriate 
Uncover new problems that need to be solved to fuel Clutch’ s growth 
 

REQUIREMENTS:
Proficient in applying a broad range of machine learning techniques to solve business problems, as demonstrated by a combination of academic training and practical experience 
Professional experience working in data science or software engineering? you should have exposure to working with production systems and with large, real world data sets  
Clarity of thought in identifying the core problem to be solved, breaking it down into solvable components and determining a robust sequence of actions in pursuit of a solution 
Intuition for how data and analytics reveal insights into human behavior and business problems 
Academic degree in a relevant quantitative discipline, ideally computer science with some concentration in machine learning? other relevant majors such as robotics or statistics are helpful? advanced degree preferred 
Knowledge of appropriate programming languages and tools to solve our problems (we are currently developing a stack based on Apache Spark but the platform continues to evolve) 
Great skills in communicating and collaborating within a team 
Enthusiastic, ingenious, adaptable, determined, collegial personality
