Business Systems Analyst: 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Works closely with the product owner to translate  the client requirements into requirement specifications for the development team. Acts as the key interface between business, engineering & project management teams in defining and influencing business requirements and assists in developing the appropriate solutions. Understands the business implications of technical solutions, and assists in defining the technology solutions to support any future business requirements. Facilitates requirements gathering/clarification sessions with non-technical business stakeholders; create business requirements definitions (epics and user stories) for the development team and work closely with the development team in implementing the user stories; summarize requirements for executive sponsors; conduct user acceptance testing and demos and assist with facilitating user adoption through training and communication.

This person will need to be an active participant in all phases of the project life cycle and will be required to work closely with a variety of internal and external partners to ensure that all business requirements are understood, documented, and delivered.

70 % - Creating and analyzing requirements based on product owner/business user input
  • Document results of business process and system application analysis
  • Work toward defining epics and user stories
  • Participate in estimation meetings
  • Work with the product owner and team through backlog grooming sessions

20 % - Acceptance testing of user stories
  • Work with the team in defining acceptance criteria for user stories
  • Participate in ongoing testing sessions as the product is being developed

10 % - Demos and user trainings
  • Work with the product owner in facilitating demo sessions for the end users
  • Put together training material as needed to document product usability
  • Participate in knowledge transfer and training sessions


Required experience:
  • Strong Business Systems Analyst and/or Product Owner candidate with minimum 5 years Agile experience (recent experience) required
  • Business Systems Analyst/Product Owner must have performed the following activities:
    • 1.Strong analysis: Analyzing a broadly-defined area and using functional decomposition to define high-level epics and stories to create a well-organized, value-driven framework to provide the required business value in the Product Backlog.
      2. Must have excellent writing skills: Writing individual stories that are very clear and concise and are easy to understand and implement by the development team.
      3. Attention to details and interpretative: Identifying related user stories and epics, grouping them into themes as necessary and documenting the interrelationship and associated business process flows as necessary.
      4. Very organized/effective time management: On large projects, working across project boundaries to integrate the needs of related projects as well as the needs of a number of different stakeholders to produce an overall solution.
  • Must have excellent communication – verbal, client facing/presentations; ability to articulate and translate requirements; skilled probing/asking right questions
  • Must be able to take charge/resourceful  - exhibit leadership skills; confident, personable
  • Ability to take initiative, drive decisions, understand project needs without being told, and make key recommendations based on the analysis performed
  • Provide mentoring & guidance to project team members, as it relates to Agile methodology
  • Effective at communicating and presenting solutions to Senior Leadership
  • Must have solid technical experience
    • Windows, MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook
    • Experience with Automated Process Modeling tools: BPMN Visio Modeler, Suite, Bonita, BPM, etc.
    • Must have Business Domain knowledge: 5 years minimum of US Retail Industry with store operations
    • Retail experience: point of sale (POS), back office and other brick and mortar retail software
    • Preferred experience working with Agile tools like Jira, CA Agile Central, TFS (Team Foundation Server) etc.
    • Experience working as a tester would be a nice to have.
  • Software requirements:
    • Software Workflow, Software Design, Software Documentation, Software Development Process, Analyzing Information, Teamwork, Software maintenance, Written Communication, Promoting Process Improvement
  • Education: Bachelor' s degree (minimum) in Business Administration, Information Systems, Operations Research


Preferred Experience:
  • Certifications: Business Process Management (CPP), Lean, Six Sigma, ITIL, etc
